Millennial Construction: Revealing Life’s Cost
Construction expenses exposed with receipts
Married to the job, but not in the traditional sense. My husband is in construction—a world that’s often glamorized but rarely understood. If you’re familiar with the industry, IYKYK.
It’s a life filled with long hours, lucrative paychecks, and enticing benefits. But behind the allure lies a reality that few outsiders grasp.
I’m pulling back the curtain to provide a candid look at what it’s really like to be married to a construction worker.
From the highs of financial stability to the lows of missed family time, and more commute time than home time, this is not for the weak, this is a unique lifestyle. Not everyone can handle it.
Thank God for Family
I am so blessed to say this. Thank God for my family. I don’t know where we would be if it weren’t for family. Just say “I love you” to your family every day.
Just do it!
When can I enjoy myself again?
Timing is A LOT and it may take a while to get used to. With a variety of schedules between me, my husband, and kids, we have so many things going on, like finding the timing is tricky!
Basically we all together now have whatever time husband comes home from work 4-8 or 11 (it varies) so let’s say its 5. So we have from 5 pm – bedtime 830-9ish together as a family of 4.
This timing is terrible.
My husband has been up since 4. Kids up around 7 and if I’m good for it, I’m up for my 5:15 Peloton class. and it is now 5 pm. Everyone is on the last nerve. I have kids screaming, jumping on couches, running around, Blippi on TV.
I am cooking dinner folding laundry putting something away or doing dishes. The husband just got home and walked in the door , rushes to use the bathroom for 25 minutes before the 10 minute shower.
All hell is breaking loose in the living room, hallway, kitchen, laundry room, tv blasting and someone is screaming “ALEXAAAAAAAAAAAAAA”.

It’s super cool right? Hi millennial mom, constructor worker wife, how ya doing?
This isn’t just my house, is it?
Please tell me I’m not the only one. Leave a comment and share your nightly exchange!
