How to Start 5 AM Workouts as Millennial Mom
As a millennial mom juggling countless responsibilities, finding time for self-care like getting a workout in can often feel like a luxury. However, over the past three months, I made a conscious decision to set my alarm for 5 AM each morning, and the impact on my health and well-being has been truly transformative.
Mind over matter
Waking up at the crack of dawn was initially a daunting prospect, but as I settled into this new routine, I began to notice significant changes in both my mental and physical health. One of the most remarkable benefits has been the opportunity to prioritize my workout routine. By starting my day with exercise, I not only feel more energized but also set a positive tone for the hours ahead.
Prepare for success
Here are some of the things I do the night before to prepare for the early start, this way my decisions are already done for me:
- Lay out my workout clothes
- Prep my drinks:
- Pre-workout – I really like the taste of this one and it doesn’t make me feel too wired after I take it. It is also not terrible on my stomach – IYKYK.
- Water Bottle – I tend to have a few water bottles in rotation but I use this one as my dedicated “GYM” water bottle. It’s a good size, I like the top part with the handle and the mouth closure being able to snap in and it’s almost like it’s protected? Not sure, maybe that’s just my idea in my head.
- Protein Shake – I have tried a few protein powders in the past, this one is my favorite!
- Schedule my Peloton classes (or stack)
- Yes, you can take Live and On-demand classes, but did you know you can schedule them and have them added to your calendar on your phone so it shows up as an event? This for me has been a GAMECHANGER, like it clicks in my brain that it’s on the calendar and that means no excuses! You can even invite other members to your scheduled on-demand class!
Mental Benefit
Embracing the quiet stillness of the early morning has become a form of meditation for me. It allows me to center myself, focus on my daily goals, and cultivate a sense of calm before the inevitable chaos of family life ensues. This time alone has become invaluable for my mental well-being, providing me with a sense of clarity and purpose that carries me through the day.
Physical Benefit
The consistency of my morning workouts has had a profound impact on my overall health. Not only have I seen improvements in my strength and endurance, but I have also noticed a positive shift in my energy levels throughout the day. By prioritizing exercise and self-care from the moment I wake up, I have set a precedent for healthy choices that resonate throughout all aspects of my life.
